No country can survive the kind attentions of medical leadership for long. Especially if that leadership is informed by faulty data and outdated assumptions. The shutdown of America essentially committed the Body Politic to a form of suspended animation to which it did not provide informed consent. The almost instantaneous cooling of the lifeblood of commerce threw it into a state of shock and transference to dependence on a heart/lung machine of undependable congressional handouts. Delay after democrat delay have led to a tipping point where either the patient must be resucitated or the cascading organ failure of essential small businesses will lead to inevitable death. Even now it's hard to see how the country will survive without sustaining long-term, perhaps permanent, damage. But the willingness of governors of Georgia, South Carolina, and other regional states to risk plugging the patient back into the economic mainstream has given the country at least some hope of constitutional life. Maybe "the south will rise again" shibboleth was oddly prophetic in a vastly different context than originally conceived. Thoughts and prayers to all y'all who don't quite feel "safe" warming up to freedom and new life just yet.
