Lots of layers to this edenic image.
On the surface, the sincere
The prayerful
Weary of injustice
Who have marched and watched
These many years, hopeful
For some sign that their
Petitions, their patience
Have been rewarded
But disappointed once again.
Then the opportunists.
Wilders, larpers
Gangster looters
Seeking excitement
Entertainment
Enrichment
Selfies
At the expense of people
Who bring brooms the next day
To sweep up what's left of their
Smoldering neighborhood.
Beneath them, the organizers
Politicians
Donors
Corporate interests
Who play the odds
And the market
In the big game
Who hand out spare change and bricks
To the naive, the hungry
The dispossessed
For votes
And weep no tears if they are sacrificed
.
And finally the deep evil
Who, soulless,
Despise humanity
Worship only power
And seek to bring all to their knees
In subjection and bondage
Who, knowing good and evil, say
"We shall be as gods."
